Pakistan downs Bangladesh in the rain hit Asia cup U-19 Semifinal
Pakistan beats Bangladesh in the 1st Semifinal of by D/L method by 2 runs played at Kinrara Academy Oval, Kuala Lumpur and reached to the Final of Asia cup Under-19 cricket tournament.
Pakistan U-19 team won the toss and elected to bowl first. While batting 1st Bangladesh U-19 team scored 274 for the loss of 6 wickets in allotted 50 overs and gave the target of 275 runs with the asking rate of 5.5 runs per over. Bangladesh opening batsman Pinak Ghosh scored outstanding innings of 82 runs in 93 balls with the help of 8 boundaries and 1 six. Bangladeshi Captain Saif Hassan and Afif Hossain scored half centuries. Saif scored 61 while Afif scored 52 not out.
Munir Riaz took 3 wickets for 53 runs from Pakistan. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hassan Khan and Suleman Shafqat got 1 wicket each. Saif Hassan and Pinak Ghosh contributed more than 100 runs for the second wicket partnership.
In reply, Pakistan lost its first wicket early on just the score of 8 runs and lost its 2nd wicket when only 26 runs were on the board. Pakistan lost its 3rd wicket on 51 runs in 11th over. Then Mohammad Taha along with wicketkeeper batsman Rohail Nazir started building the partnership. They moved the score to 120 when Rohail Nazir got out. Taha again started to build partnership with newcomer Saad khan. Although it was a sunny day but it started drizzling when the match was in 33rd over. They continued to bat but at 38.2 over Qazi Onik Islam finally dismisses long-standing batsman Muhammad Taha caught by Nayeem Hasan. Taha misses the century by only 8 runs.
Hassan Khan replaces to pair with Saad Khan. Sky was turning darker and flashes of lightning occur and with the consultation of Umpires the match was suspended due to rain, with the score at 199 for 5. At this point, Pakistan was ahead by two runs according to D/L method.
Qazi Onik from Bangladesh took 2 wickets for 35 runs while Afif Hossain and Shakhawat Hossain got 1 wicket each. Suleman Shafqat played his first match for Pakistan today.
Tomorrow, Afghanistan will play against Nepal in the second semifinal of the tournament. Final of the tournament will be played on Sunday 19th November.
