PFF Raises Concerns Over Jinnah Stadium Lighting

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has expressed concerns about the newly installed lighting system at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad, just weeks before their crucial match against Saudi Arabia next month.

In a formal letter addressed to the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), the PFF highlighted that the new floodlights fail to meet the standards set by both the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). This issue was substantiated by observation reports following PFF officials' visits to the stadium on May 3 and May 18, which noted inadequate lighting around the goalposts.

The reports emphasized that the lighting in these key areas does not work to the necessary specifications, potentially impacting visibility and player safety during matches. This concern arises at a critical juncture as Pakistan prepares to host an international fixture of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Round 2, aiming to complete its home fixtures in Group G.

The substandard lighting could pose a major challenge, affecting the quality of play and Pakistan's ability to host the international match against Saudi Arabia on June 6. The PFF has urged the PSB to address these issues urgently, stressing the need for immediate corrective measures to ensure the stadium meets AFC and FIFA standards.

Should the lighting issues remain unresolved, the PFF might be compelled to seek alternative venues for their home match against Saudi Arabia. This potential relocation would mean missing the opportunity to host football legends such as head coach Roberto Mancini and assistant coach Yaya Toure.

As of now, the PSB has not issued an official statement regarding the matter. However, given the implications for Pakistan’s football infrastructure and future, the issue is expected to be urgently addressed.
