PCB Contemplates New T20 Captain for World Cup Amid Shaheen's Struggles
Pacer is struggling with his bowling form not only in PSL but seen in the the Test series against Australia.
Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi's lackluster performance as captain for Lahore Qalandars in PSL 9 has prompted discussions within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding a potential replacement ahead of the T20 World Cup.
According to the media, sources reveal that Muhammad Rizwan is being considered to lead the national T20 team before the upcoming World Cup in June.
With only one victory in PSL 9, Shaheen's leadership has come under scrutiny, leading to suggestions for a change in captaincy.
While some in the PCB feel Shaheen, at 23, is too young for the role, others are concerned about team harmony if a change is made.
Shaheen's struggles extend beyond PSL, as evidenced by Pakistan's lackluster performance against New Zealand in January and his underwhelming display in the Test series against Australia.
The Pakistan team is scheduled to commence its World Cup campaign against hosts USA on June 6, followed by a highly anticipated clash with arch-rivals India on June 9 at Eisenhower Park, New York.
Subsequent group matches against Canada and Ireland await Pakistan, with the T20 World Cup featuring a record 20 teams.
