Shane Watson Emerges as Strong Contender for Pakistan Coaching Role
He is currently working as head coach for Quetta Gladiators.
Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has emerged as a formidable contender for the coaching role of the Pakistan national men's cricket team, as reported by local media, citing reliable sources. Currently serving as the head coach for Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine, the 42-year-old is under consideration for the prestigious coaching position.
The decision regarding the coaching staff is expected to be made soon, with other notable contenders including Mike Hesson and Daren Sammy. Hesson is presently the head coach for Islamabad United, while Sammy holds the same position for Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing PSL.
Additionally, Sir Vivian Richards is being considered by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a mentorship role, reflecting the PCB's interest in assembling a robust coaching staff for the national team. However, securing renowned coaches poses a challenge due to their commitments in various cricket leagues worldwide.
The five-match T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand is reportedly scheduled for the second week of April.
