SOJC: Pakistan Draws 3-3 against Defending Champion India in the Opener
Defending champion India started its title defence in the Sultan of Johor Cup 2023 with a 3-3 draw against Pakistan at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Malaysia on Friday.
In the inaugural match of the Sultan of Johor Cup junior men's hockey tournament held in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, defending champions India displayed remarkable resilience by twice equalizing against their arch-rivals, Pakistan, ultimately securing a 3-3 draw.
Amandeep Lakra's goal in the 30th minute, followed by strikes from Aditya Arjun Lalage in the 56th minute and Uttam Singh in the 59th minute, ensured India earned a valuable point. Meanwhile, Arbaz Ahmad, with goals in the 31st and 58th minutes, along with Abdul Shahid's contribution in the 49th minute, accounted for Pakistan's scores.
In two other matches on the opening day, Australia outplayed Great Britain by 3-0 while New Zealand beat the host Malaysia 3-2.
Pakistan will play the next match today against New Zealand. Germany faces South Africa and the host Malaysia will test their skills against India.
