Pakistan overcome Islanders to clinch the ODI series

Imam-ul-haq’s ton on debut and five wickets haul for Hassan Ali helped Pakistan to defeat Sri lanka in the 3rd ODI of ongoing series in Abu Dhabi, taking a decisive 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Pakistan restricted islanders on 208 runs in 48.2 overs and paceman Hassan Ali took his career best 34-5. While batting debutant Imam guided Pakistan with a brilliant and sensible 100 of 124 balls. He is only the 2nd Pakistani and 3rd youngest player to achieve the milestone.

Only Saleem Elahi scored a hundred on debut against Sri Lanka on debate in 1995 at Gujranwala. He then played the innings of 102 runs.

Pakistan picked Imam in place of out of form opener Ahmed Shahzad who failed to score in the 1st two matches of the series.

Imam scored 100 while, Fakhar Zaman scored 29 runs and Babar Azam got out at 30 runs. Mohammad Hafeez 34* and Sohaib Malik 0* remained not out.

Earlier Hassan Ali took 5 wickets for Pakistan while Leg-spinner Shadab Khan took 2 wickets for 37 runs. Hassan Ali also broke the record of Legendry Waqar Younis of getting fastest 50 wickets for Pakistan. He achieved this milestone in 24 matches surpassed Waqar Younis who did in 27 matches.

Hassan Ali also becomes most successful bowler of 2017, he has now 40 wickets in calendar year 2017 so far in just 16 matches. He picked up his third ODI five-for during the third match against Sri Lanka. That made him one of only nine bowlers to take three or more five-wicket hauls in a year. The last Pakistan fast bowler to do so was Azhar Mahmood, in 1999.

Pakistan now have an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series after winning the first match by 83 runs in Dubai and a 32-run victory in Abu Dhabi.

The latest defeat becomes Sri Lanka's 10th in a row. For Pakistan, it was the seventh consecutive win in ODIs and the ninth victory in the last 11 matches.

The fourth and fifth ODIs will be played in Sharjah on October 20 and 23. The two teams will also play three T20 internationals, the first two in Abu Dhabi (October 26 and 27) and the last in Lahore (October 29).
