Shahtaj-4 overcomes Hashoo to win Argentine Republic Polo Cup
Hamza Mowaz’s brilliance helped Shahtaj-4 to win the Argentine Republic Polo Cup 2017 as it defeated Hashoo 8-1 in the final match played at the Islamabad Polo Club.
Seasoned campaigner Hamza scored four goals for the winning team while Argentinean player Matias de Olmos who is an international trainer and has also been running the Islamabad Club Polo Academy for the last couple of years contributed two goals and Usman and Aun Rizvi scored 1 goal each.
Saqib Khakwani scored the consolation goal for the Hashoo.
Shahtaj-4 had dominated the game in all 4 chakars. Shahtaj-4’s took the lead by 2-0 in first chakar and extended the lead to 5-0 in the second chakar.
At the end of 3rd Shahtaj-4 scored 2 more goals and in the last chakar they ended with 8 goals. In the dying moments, Saqib Khakwani scored a goal for Hashoo and reduced the deficit to 8-1.
Hamza and his horse were both awarded for their brilliant performance. Argentinean Ambassador Iván Ivanissevich was the host and chief guest of the tournament and distributed prizes among the players at the end of the final match. A huge numbers of spectators were present to watch the match.
The tournament was organized by Argentinean Embassy in Pakistan and was sponsored by Gerry’s. Total 5 teams participated in the tournament.

Argentinean players come regularly to play in Lahore and Karachi, while Pakistani players visit every year Argentina to train, play and buy ponies. Argentinean and Pakistani players meet in international tournaments and sometimes even play together in the same teams.
