The National Challenge Cup 2020 wrapped up successfully at the Punjab Stadium, Lahore. A total of 28 teams participated in the event organized by the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) where 58 matches were played from November 30 to December 20.
A solitary goal from Larosh Khalid was enough for WAPDA to win their maiden title by defeating Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) 1-0 in the tensely-fought final of the National Football Challenge Cup at the Punjab Stadium, Lahore.
Larosh hammered 15 minutes from time as WAPDA, Pakistan football’s storied powerhouses, edged past the runner of the previous event in Peshawar last year, Sui Southern Gas Company 1-0 in the final.
SSGC had also been the runners-up in the previous event in Peshawar last year.
WAPDA ended a run of three final defeats since 2002 while the loss meant Tariq Lutfi’s star-studded SSGC lost out in the final for a second successive year.
In the match for the third position, a sixth-minute strike from Qadeer Hussain helped Pakistan Army scrape past Karachi Port Trust.
