Pakistan gearing up to feature in 6th Asian Beach Games
Pakistan will field its contingent in seven disciplines in the 6th Asian Beach Games to be held in Sanya, China from April 2 to 10 next year.
A meeting was held to finalise the preparation plan for the 6th Asian Beach Games—a biennial multi-sport event which features sporting events plays on a seaside beach.
The games are scheduled to be held in Sanya, China from April 2 to 10 next year.
Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Dr. Fehmida Mirza, who is also president of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), has agreed, in principle, to participate the Pakistan Contingent in the 6th Asian Beach Games.
She also discussed the preparation plan, strength of athletes for national training camps and participation in the event.
The POA has approved the participation of a Pakistan contingent in seven disciplines including sailing, athletics, handball, jujitsu, kabaddi, volleyball and wrestling.
Dr Fehmida directed the PSB to work out the financial implications, so the proposal could be finalized and approved.
Pakistan has participated in the Asian Games since their second edition in 1954.
In the 2008 Asian Beach Games, held in Bali, Indonesia, Pakistani athletes gained a total of seven medals, with two gold.
In the 2010 Asian Beach Games, organised in Muscat, Pakistan earned a total of six medals, but no gold, and finished at the 15th spot in the medal table.
In the 2016 Asian Beach Games in Vietnam, Pakistan had finished with two gold, three silvers and six bronze medals.
