Blazing Heat clinches feature event at LRC

Chestnut colt Blazing Heart was lucky to win the feature event during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

The Coca Cola Cup, a class VI race was contested over the sprinting distance of 1,200 metres. The 2-1 chance winner, ridden by A. Raza, edged out the 60 to 100 favourite Big Bash, ridden by Aamir Pervez.

Bay colt The King Maker and colt Admiral’s Walk completed the frame in a big field of 15 runners.

Blazing Heart, who had finished off the frame in his last running put up a different show running ahead of the field from the start and ended the race in a same style though winning by a slightest advantage of a neck.

Lahore Race Club (LRC) steward Pervez Masud gave away the cup to the winning owner Najeeb Haider Bagri soon after the race.

It was a good day for upcoming riding boy Babar Rehman, who stole the limelight by bringing home a brace of winners. He piloted Kali Ghata to a hard fought neck’s victory in the second race and then went on to complete his double through Satpara in the third race.

LRC stewards came down hard on riding boy Memraiz Khan for his unsatisfactory riding on chestnut mare Mah-e-Doura and suspended him from riding for six months with a fine of Rs30,000 in the first race.

That served as an opener for culprits among riders, who did not dare to pull their mounts in the subsequent races. The stewards action was largely hailed by the punters particularly who had backed the mare, for win or place.
