South Asian Games Medal-winning athletes feted with cheques

Federal Minister for IPC Dr Fehmida Mirza distributed cheques among players of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan who won medals during 13th South Asian Games held in Nepal last December.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Fehmida lauded not only the medal winners but also thanked their parents for encouraging their children. The AFP players total 13 medals, which include 5 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals.
The athletes to be honoured were Arshad Nadeem (who gold in javelin); Uzair Rehman (200-metre gold and 4x100m relay bronze); Mohammad Naeem (110-metre hurdles gold and 4x100m relay bronze); Mahboob Ali (400-metre hurdles gold and 4x400m relay bronze); Shams-ul-Haq (discus throw bronze); Samiullah (100-metre bronze and 4x100m relay bronze); Umar Sadat won (4x400m relay bronze); Abdul Moeed (4x400m relay bronze); Nokar Hussain (4x400m relay bronze); Mohammad Shahbaz (4x400m relay bronze); Najma Parveen (400-metre hurdles gold, 200-metre silver, 4x400m relay silver, 4x100m relay bronze), Sahaib-a-Asra (4x400m relay silver, 400m bronze, 4x100m relay bronze); Aneela Gulzar (4x400m relay silver, 4x100m relay bronze); Rabia Ashiq (4x400m relay silver) and Esha Imran (4x100m relay bronze).
In line with the approved cash award policy, gold medalists were given Rs1 million each, silver medalists Rs500,000 and bronze medalists Rs250,000 out of the total amount of Rs11.250 million.
