Athletics officials from eight South Asian countries — Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh and Nepal — are featuring in the seminar-course.
Out of a total 800 technical officials, ten from Pakistan are participating in the activity being hosted by the Indian Athletics Federation.
The eight male and two female athletics officials from Pakistan participating in the seminar-course are Wing Cdr Pervaiz Saeed Mir, Lt Col Ghulam Shabbir Anjum, Chaudhry Tariq Mehmood Sidhu, Husnain Syed, Tanweer Hussain, Mudassar Hameed, Abdul Majeed, Qalandar Abbas, Nabeela Kamran and Humaira Mehmood Khan.
The course concludes on April 30.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Athletics Federation president retired Maj Gen Akram Sahi who is also SAF chairman, while addressing the participants through the video link said coronavirus has spread all over the world with its harmful effects, gripping the entire world.
“Technology is playing a key role in keeping the world united at this crucial time,” he said. However, he hoped that soon the world would get control over the virus and playgrounds would again be full of sporting activities.
He said that this seminar-course would promote athletics in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, South Asian Athletics Federation president Dr Lalit K Bhanot hoped that the collective efforts during this difficult time would help to promote the game.
“Through this [online seminar-course] exercise the technical officials will keep themselves updated about modern knowledge.”
During the six-day seminar, Hungary’s Krisztina Hovarth, Chris Cohen from the UK, Japan’s Yukio Seki, Luca Verrascina of Italy, Ireland’s Pierce O’Callaghan besides various international experts and experienced athletes from different countries will give lectures to the participants on a variety of sports-related issues, including the rules of the game.
