Swat clinched the athletics trophy in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U-23 Swat Region Inter-district Women Games here on Wednesday.
Swat, which bagged two gold medals in shot put and discus throw plus three silver medals — in javelin throw, 100m and shot put — and three bronze, secured 50 points to top the table.
District Shangla — with two golds in 100m and shot put and one silver in discus throw — secured 27 points to claim second spot.
Upper Dir (13 points) winning one silver medal and a bronze in javelin throw seized third position.
Shahana of Shangla was declared the best athlete for winning gold in 100m and shot put, and silver in javelin throw. Earning 27 points, she also received the honour of becoming the fastest athlete of the meet.
In martial arts, Swat recorded clean-sweep victories in judo, taekwondo and wushu while Shangla obtained runners-up trophies in all the three events.
Meanwhile, in the opening match of the cricket event Shangla defeated Dir Upper by 13 runs.
Electing to bat first, Shangla posted 113 in the allotted 20 overs. Hira smashed a cracking 44 including five boundaries and a six. Farhana (33) and Pakhunda (31) were the other key contributors. For Swat, Munaza, Rubina and Bushra took two wickets each.
In reply, Upper Dir were bowled out for 100 as Hira’s four-wicket haul helped Shangla restrain the opponent batsmen. Tauheed and Khadijah took two wickets each.
After winning the first match, Shangla went on to outclass Swat by seven wickets in the final.
Batting first, Swat totalled 86 as Sumaya (31) and Sawaira (21) remained their main scorers. Hira, Pakhunda and Kashmala claimed three wickets each.
Shangla, in reply, successfully chased the target while losing only three wickets. The 52-run partnership between Hira (32) and Tuheed (20 not out) steered Shangla to an impressive victory. Irum and Tahira took one wicket each.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa DG Sports Rashida Ghaznavi, the chief guest, distributed trophies and medals among the winners.
