Pakistan women off to a dominant start at T20 World Cup

Pakistan women's cricket team defeated West Indies by 8 wickets at Canberra to get their T20 World Cup campaign off to a winning start.

Pakistan women's cricket team got off to a flying start in the T20 World Cup after dominating West Indies women's cricket team by 8 wickets.

Chasing 125 runs for the win in their first game of the tournament, Pakistan's opening pair of Muneeba Ali (25 off 26 balls) and Javeria Khan (35 off 28 balls) provided a perfect opening stand for their team.

The duo managed to partner up for 58 runs in 7.2 over to ease any nerves before Javeria was trapped LBW by Stafanie Taylor.

Captain Bismah Maroof then joined the proceedings and after struggling initially saw her side home with an unbeaten innings of 32 from 33 balls.

Pakistan wobbled after Muneeba was dismissed with the teams score on 77 but Bimah and Nida Dar played responsible knocks to steer Pakistan towards a win.

Earlier, Pakistan bowled superbly after being asked to bowl to restrict a dangerous West Indies batting side to 124 runs from 20 overs.

Diana Baig removed Hayley Matthews on the very first ball of the day and finished with figures of 2 for 19 in 4 overs.

Nida Dar, Aiman Anwer also finished with two wickets apiece while Anam Amin managed to pick one wicket for 19 runs.

For her innings, Javeria Khan was named player of the match.
