Unseeded Hoor Fawad becomes youngest Karachi Table Tennis champion

The unseeded Hoor Fawad overcame top seed Hareem Anwar in fully stretched women’s singles final of Karachi Table Tennis Championship which concluded successfully at Islamia Club, Karachi.

The unseeded Hoor Fawad registered her name in the annals of the game by becoming the youngest Karachi champion when she fought gallantly to beat top seed Hareem Anwar in fully stretched women’s singles final.

Another promising talent, Aahil Shah, successfully retained men’s singles crown when when he thumped unseeded Arsalan Alvi as curtain fell on Karachi Table Tennis Championship. Both Hoor and Aahil belong to Islamia Club.

Despite defeat, Hareem ended up with a double crown (women’s team event and mixed doubles) so did Aahil (men’s team event and men’s singles).

Saim Adnan also annexed the doubles crown (mixed doubles and men’s doubles).

“I’m happy to elevate my stature by winning women’s singles crown of the Karachi championship,” jubilant 11-year-old junior international Hoor told said after triumph.

Hoor, who had represented the country at ITTF Hopes Training and Competition League at Kathmandu and World Hopes League at Bangkok, said she will work hard to win more laurels for the country in days to come.

Hoor overcome early hiccups to stun her seasoned opponent 7-11, 4-11, 11-4, 12-14, 11-4, 11-9, 14-12.

Contrary to women’s final, Aahil, who is Pakistan No 4, convincingly romped home 11-9, 11-8, 7-11,11-8, 11-6 to keep men’s singles title with him.

Saim and Hareem teamed up to defeat Arsalan and Qurat Sakina 11-8, 12-10, 16-18, 11-6 to land the mixed doubles title.

The men’s doubles title went to Arsalan and Saim who carved out straight 11-8, 11-6, 11-6 victory over the duo of Usman and Salman.

Elderly S. M. Sibtain, who has been elevated as chairman of Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) recently, graced the occasion and gave away the prizes along with incumbent president Tauqeer Muhajir, former internationals Javed Hayat, Arif Nakhuda, Sohail Hayat, Seema Kaleem and Nazo Tahir.

The ceremony was also attended by former internationals Arif Khan, Perveen Makhdumi, Rubina Arif and Saleem Ahmed.
