Lahori Sayeen gallops to 2020 Cup at Karachi Racecourse
Lahori Sayeen produced an outstanding performance to edge out co-favourite Parachuter by three-quarter-of-a-length to win the 2020 Cup during the winter Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Lahori Sayeen produced a stunning display to overcome the challenge of co-favourite dark bay horse Parachuter, by three-quarter-of-a-length to win the 2020 Cup during the winter Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
The victorious horse, who was opened as a joint favourite with Parachuter and fourth-placed Mohallaydar, opened his account of the year after last weeks loss.
Mare Dazzling Diva occupied third place on board after finishing four lengths behind.
Owned by Lahore’s Mian Waleed Iqbal, Lahori Sayeen was riden by Zohaib Qamar and sent out by trainer Zia-ur-Rehman.
Favourite grey mare Winter justified her credentials by getting the better of challenger, the six-year-old bay mare, Sweet Victory by two lengths and-a-half to clinch the fifth and concluding race, which was also the feature event, top scale order I, II and III and over five furlongs.
Both Winter and Sweet Victory ran a neck-and-neck race even after negotiating the bend when the former kicked up speed to post a maiden victory for the owner.
Winter is owned by Quetta's Takari Chakar Khan.
Bay horses Janbaaz and Sher Khan followed in the footsteps of the top two horses and finished in same order.
At the outset, dark bay horse Adeel Prince pulled of a major upset by galloping to three-quarter-of-a-length victory over mare Fast Catcher, to annex the first race as public fancy Mera Dost completed the board. .
Favourite bay horse Raven, who finished second in his debut on Dec 29 last, presented owner M.R. Hussain with first win while opening his course account.
He got the better of mare Lakshmi by two lengths for the honours.
Bay horse Piyara Faisal galloped to a length and-a-half victory over mare Soldier Queen to clinch the second race as co-favourite bay horse Sharp Shooter finished third followed by Starka.
Trainers Zia-ur-Rehman (Piyara Faisal and Lahori Sayeen) and Naveed Baran (Adeel Prince and Winter) excelled in their cadres with a brace of winners apiece.
