Army hammers Karachi United WFC to retain National Women Football Championship Title
Army WFC hammered Karachi United WFC 7-1 in the final at Karachi United Football Ground to win the 12th National Women Football Championship title on Sunday.
Pakistan Army WFC mauled Karachi United 7-1 to win the 12th edition of the National Women Football Championship on Sunday.
The final, played at Karachi United Football ground, was a one-sided affair as the inexperienced home team showed nerves at the wrong time against an Army side that included several Pakistan internationals.
The warning signs that a drubbing was imminent were there after Army's Hajra Khan opened the scoring in just the third minute of the game.
Eshal broke Karachi United's resistance one again in the 25th minute to double her sides lead with an impressive effort.
Alina and captain Malika-e-Noor then added goals in the 37th and 40th minute to give Army a four goal cushion before the half time whistle was blown.
Karachi United WFC showed much better effort at the start of the second half as they carved out a string of chances before eventually finding the back of the net in the 49th minute through Suha Herani to give her side some hope of a comeback.
After blowing a slew of chances, Karachi United was made to pay for their mistakes by Army WFC as they scored three more goals in the 80th, 81st and 90th minute to seal an impressive 7-1 win. The goals came through efforts of Aliza, Eshal and Alina respectively.
“It was a great team effort, we got the edge because of our experience. But I am happy to see young girls showing potential in the sport,” said Pakistan Army’s captain Malika Noor who has also represented Pakistan in 20 international games.
“We were an inexperienced side, Army had international players while our players were in their early teens. We lost, but it was a good learning experience for the young players,” said Shumaila Zehri, the captain of Karachi United.
Earlier, in the third place playoff, WAPDA defeated Punjab convincingly by 10-0 to claim the third position.
At the closing ceremony, WAPDA’s captain Syeda Mahpara was declared the Best Goalkeeper of the Championship.
Sahar Zaman of WAPDA secured the golden boot award after scoring 27 goals in the championship while Karachi United’s Suha Herani was named the most valuable player of the tournament.
