Pakistan defeats India to win HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup

Pakistan defeated India by seven wickets at Sydney Showground Stadium to win the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup.

Pakistan has won the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup after defeating India by seven wickets at Sydney Showground Stadium.

The HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup is an endeavor to bring communities together to connect with and celebrate culture.

The sixth edition of the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup saw more than 600 players from eight different communities take part; African Nations, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The final, which preceded Sydney Thunder’s KFC Big Bash League clash with the Brisbane Heat, was contested by Pakistan and India for the fourth time in five years, after the two sides successfully progressed through the semi-final stage of the community tournament.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Pakistan restricted India to 49 runs from six overs.

Nadim Ahmed top-scored for India with 11, while Pakistan’s Kwawaja took 2/5 from his over.

Pakistan openers Waleed Jalil (21*) and Subhan Kahn (18*) managed to complete the run chase without losing a wicket, with Jalil finishing the game with a huge six.

“It is a huge opportunity just to feel that type of environment which only elite sportspeople tend to feel, and it was great fun,” said Pakistan captain Umair Warraich.

“It was really important for us not to get to caught up in the moment and just focus on the brand of cricket which we have been playing and luckily for us we were able to do that.

“It’s a great honour to represent Pakistan in any capacity but to do that in cricket is such a great feeling and hopefully it will encourage more and more people to come and attend the trials and want to also represent Pakistan and eventually help to promote the game of cricket.”
