Master Paints and JS Bank won the opening matches of the Solitaire Polo Cup for Faysal Bank 2016 here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Tuesday.
In the first match of the day, Master Paints outclassed Newage by 7-4½. Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana was top scorer for the winners as he smashed sterling four while rest of the three goals were converted by Usman Haye, Sufi Farooq and Shah Changez Alam, as they hit one goal apiece. For the losing side, Ch Fateh and Hassan Abbas scored one goal each.
No goal was scored in the first chukker while second chukker saw two goals – one each from both the teams – to level the score at 1-1. Ch Fateh hit for Newage while Ahmad Tiwana struck for Master Paints. The third chukker was fully dominated by Master Paints as they hammered three back-to-back goals to take a healthy lead of 4-1. Ahmad Tiwana, Usman Haye and Sufi Farooq pumped in one goal each.
Master Paints slammed three more goals in the fourth and last chukker to stretch their lead to 7-1. Ahmad Tiwana scored a brace while Shah Changez hit one. Hassan Abbas scored the second goal for Newage in the dying moments to finish the match at 7-2. With two and half goals handicap advantage, the final c score was 7-4½. Mian Hussain Iftikhar and Taimur Ali Malik supervised the match as field umpires.
In the second match of the day, JS Bank routed Subway by 5-4½. Irfan Sheikh and Taimur Noon excelled for the winners with two goals each while Saif Noon contributed one. For the losing side, Mir Huzaifa Ahmed played superbly and thwarted tremendous three goals while Abdullah Dawood converted one but their heroics couldn’t save their team’s blushes. M Usman Malik and Faisal Shahzad officiated the match as field umpires.
