Haris Rauf Joins Melbourne Stars of BBL as Dale Steyn’s Replacement

Right-arm fast bowler has been called up by Melbourne Stars as South African quick, Dale Steyn’s replacement as an overseas signing.

Big Bash League (BBL) outfit Melbourne Stars have roped in Pakistan’s Haris Rauf as an international replacement player for South African legend Dale Steyn.

The Proteas star is currently unavailable for the Stars in their opening game after suffering a side strain.

Haris Rauf who is yet to make his international debut, is already a known name in cricketing circles due to his exploits in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The rookie pacer came to limelight in Lahore Qalandars’ talent hunt program. The 24-year-old impressed at the 2018 Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy and Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2018.

He will suit up for Qalandars in the next edition of the league as well. Haris played all ten of Lahore’s games in 2018, picking up 11 wickets and keeping his economy rate under 7.5.

The uncapped player will be looking to continue the same form in Big Bash League.

On the pacer friendly wickets of Australia, he could be really menacing with his pace. A good performance in Australia will surely brighten up his chances of making it to the Pakistan team.

Haris Rauf is now the only Pakistani cricketer featuring in the Big Bash League after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) denied Faheem Ashraf the permission to play for Melbourne Renegades and asked him to play domestic cricket instead.

Melbourne Stars finished as runner-ups at the BBL after losing to Melbourne Renegades in the final last year.
