Sindh Government Press lifts 1st Essa Lab Departmental Football Tournament trophy

Sindh Government Press (SGP) took home the title trophy of Essa Lab Departmental Football Tournament 2019, against National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) at KMC Stadium in Karachi.

Dr Essa Laboratory and Diagnostic Center sponsored yet another mega event named: Essa Laboratories Departmental Football Tournament. This tournament featured departmental teams from all around the country. Players from each team put their all on the line to take home the title victory of the tournament.

Among the participants, Sindh Government Press (SGP) and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) made it to the grand finale of the tournament where SGP earned a hard fought title win on penalties against NBP by 5-4.

An exciting game was witnessed in the scheduled time with both sides putting in concerted efforts. Following incisive rallies, Ali Khan put SGP ahead in the 40th minute which remained the only goal till the break.

In the 54th minute, Shakir Lashari doubled SGP’s lead and it seemed NBP would not be able to bring parity.

NBP, however, put a lot of pressure on SGP from both the wings and were able to level the scores that stretched the game to penalties.

Zain Ul Aabdeen, first reduced NBP’s deficit when he landed a goal from a penalty kick before Misbah Ul Hasan’s header in the stoppage time enabled the bankers to level the scores.

The game was 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time.

SGP, however, did a fine job on penalties to earn a well-deserved victory. SGP's goalkeeper, Mohammad Ismail, earned praises for stopping NBP’s first penalty taken by Suleman Rahim. The same outcome helped SGP in the end to edge past the bankers.

For SGP, Mohammad Sameer, Junaid Juni, Ali Khan Niazi, Nouman Dodo and Usman Manzoor converted their penalties while for NBP, Adnan Ashraf, Sanaullah, Maqbool Ahmed and Mohammad Umar hit from the spot.

Member National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports, Iqbal Mohammad Ali was the honorable chief guest at the concluding ceremony who at the end gave away the trophies and cash awards to both the winners and runner up teams: Rs 20,000 and 10,000/- respectively.
