Tayyab wins Gold as Farhan, Madina, Faiza seize Bronze in Squash at 13th South Asian Games
Star squash player Tayyab Aslam won Gold medal while Farhan Mehboob and sisters Madina & Faiza Zafar secured Bronze medal in the individual squash events at 13th South Asian Games.
Pakistan’s bright squash player Tayyab Aslam won Gold medal while Farhan Mehboob and sisters Madina Zafar & Faiza Zafar got Bronze medal in the individual squash events at 13th South Asian Games.
Top seed Tayyab Aslam swatted aside India’s Harindar Pal Singh 3-1 to win gold medal in 45 minutes clash of individual squash event.
Lahore-born Tayyab after losing the first game 8-11, changed the game plan and put Harindar under pressure. Former Pakistan no. 1 kept Indian player on the run and played fast squash. The plan paid off and helped him to win the second game 11-3.
The third game was also played on high tempo as Tayyab matched fire-with-fire but finally prevailed and took it 11-8. The same was the case in the fourth game where he was a bit slow while Harindar took healthy lead, but Tayyab timely countered his game plan and won it 11-8 grabbing the gold medal as a result.
Second seed Farhan Mehboob earned bronze as he had conceded defeat to Harindar Pal 3-2 in a nail-biting semi-final thriller.
The final score line was 9-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8 and 11-9.
Pakistan women players Madina Zafar and Faiza Zafar also claimed bronze medals in individual round of squash event.
In total, individual round of men and women events Pakistan earned one gold and three bronze medals.
