Ace karateka, Saadi Abbas captures gold at 13th South Asian Games
Top-notch Pakistani karate fighter, Saadi Abbas did not disappoint the nation as he earned a Gold medal in the on-going South Asian Games 2019 which are being held at Kathmandu in Nepal.
After the first two Golds for the country by Shahida and Mohammad Awais in Individual Kata and 85 KG weight classes, respectively, Saadi Abbas, featuring in -75 KG category, grabbed yet another gold in the same sport with his exceptional skills.
Saadi, who already has golds in the last SAG, Commonwealth Games, Asian Championship and US Open Karate Championship, added another gold to his tally by defeating the host nation's fighter in the final round. Pakistani karateka faced a bye in the first fight and then crushed his Sri Lankan opponent in the next round by 7-1. He was then up against the host nation’s athlete in the -75 KG final and simply hammered him 8-0.
Saadi to his this victory expressed pleasure saying,
"I have won gold in 13th South Asian Games Karate event, I've waited for this win for so long and thanks to Allah he has finally fulfilled my wish. I will try my best to win gold at the forthcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics as well, Pakistan Zindabad."
Pakistan also added four silver and one bronze to their tally in karate with Zafar Iqbal earning silver in 60 KG, Naseer Ahmed in 67 KG, Sana Kausar in 55 KG and Kulsoom in 68 KG while the bronze was snared by Naz Gul in 61 KG.
Earlier, Pakistani female team having Nargis, Shahida and Gul won a silver in Team Event and Men’s team managed to win a bronze in the Male Team Event as well. The team included: MD Arif, MD Saheed and Munawar Hussain.
Today the Pakistani karatekas will be fighting for four more gold medals where Nargis Hazara and Nouman will be featuring in 68 KG and 50 KG contests and more Pakistani fighters will be competing in the Men and Women Team Kumite competitions.
