Warner, Labuschagne make Pakistani bowlers toil again

David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne hit unbeaten centuries as Australia took command of the second test match against Pakistan at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide.

David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne hit their second centuries in as many innings to take Australia to a commanding position at the end of day one against Pakistan in their day/night test match at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide.

The left handed opener, Warner, continued his penchant for scoring against Pakistan by hitting his second consecutive century of the test series against a toothless bowling effort.

Labuschagne has been the find of the summer for Australia, as the one down batsman masterfully constructed another patient knock before reaching his second career hundred off 169 balls that included 14 fours.

Pakistan, making two changes to the team, were asked to bowl after losing the toss.

The team started confidently as Shaheen Shah caused all sorts of problems for openers David Warner and Joe Burns with his swing and bounce with the pink ball. The effort paid off as Shaheen had Burns caught behind for just 4 with Australia's score at 9.

This was the only positive note for Pakistan's bowling on the first day as Labuschange and Warner navigated Shaheen's spell with patience and calm before taking the attack to debuting Muhammad Musa scoring runs at will against the young pacer.

The rain seemed to be the only ally for Pakistan that gave its bowlers some respite from a barrage of attacking strokes but even losing 17 overs to rain failed to dampen the spirits of the batting pair.

Warner and Labuschagne remained not out on 166 and 126 respectively at the close of the play on first day having constructed an unbeaten stand of 294.

Pakistan failed to take advantage of the night session which generally favours the bowling side in day/night tests. Shaheen was the only bowler to pick up a wicket having done so with conceding 48 runs.

The rest of the bowling lineup failed to test the batsmen as Australia scored freely at a runrate of 4.13.

Pakistan would hope for some quick wickets when the play resumes on the second day.
