Tayyab, Ashab, Nawaz, Fahad breeze into 1st Aitchison College National Junior Squash C’ship 2019 semis
Tayyab Rauf, Ashab Irfan, Abbas Nawaz and Fahad Sharif moved into the U17 semifinals of the 1st Aitchison College National Junior Squash Championship at their on-campus courts, Lahore.
Aitchison College is holding the National U-15 and U-17 Squash Championships at their on-campus courts, Lahore.
Tayyab Rauf, Ashab Irfan, Abbas Nawaz and Fahad Sharif breezed into the U17 semifinals of the 1st Aitchison College National Junior Squash Championship after winning their respective matches.
In U17 quarterfinals, Tayyab, Ashab, Abbad and Fahad emerged as winners while in U15 quarterfinals, Anas Bukhari, Usman Nadeem, Muhammad Ammad, Muhammad Hanif scored victories to sail into the last four.
Aitchison College Principal Michael Alester Thomson graced the occasion as chief guest and witnessed matches with keen interest. Also present there were Tournament Director Muhammad Mansoor, Gogi Alauddin and a large number of fans.
Michael Alester said his institution was laying special emphasis on promotion of sports by organising regular sports events in various disciplines. He said the inaugural squash tournament was a step forward to motivate the college players to take up squash as a sport and to find new talent. “We will hold squash tournament on annual basis to contribute in identifying new squash talent,” he said.
Pakistan has been a global front-runner in the game of Squash since 1967, governed by the Pakistan Squash Federation. Worldwide renowned Pakistani squash players Jahangir Khan and Jasnher Khan were two of the best sportsmen to bring pride to their country during their reigns. Pakistan’s squash teams have been recipients of the World Team Titles 6 times.
Through Aitchison's commitment to helping national sporting events, squash is being taught at the College to young boys, inculcating the skills and techniques. The College also focuses on building the students' pride for representing Pakistan in squash matches and championships within the country as well as across the world.
