Amir, Danish, Ayesha claim Gold at 4th National Youth and Junior Athletics Championship
Auspicious athletes Aamir Sohail, Danish and Ayesha won gold medals in their respective events of the National Youth and Junior Athletics Championship at the Punjab Stadium, Lahore.
The 4th National Youth and Junior Athletics Championship is being organized under the aegis of Athletics Federation of Pakistan and with the collaboration of Sports Board Punjab.
Four events were decided on the inaugural of the two-day National Youth and Junior Athletics Championship 2019 at the Punjab Stadium, Lahore.
In the men’s 1500 meters Aamir Sohail of WAPDA won the gold medal while and Iftikhar of the same unit claimed silver. Ghulam Mohuddin took home the bronze medal.
The men’s 110 meters hurdles was won by Danish of Army, while Waqas Younus of WAPDA and Mohammad Sufyan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained second and third respectively.
In the women’s 200 meters, Ayesha of Punjab took gold while Tehrem Aalam of WAPDA and Sanheeha Shaheen of Punjab claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively.
In the women’s long-jump event, Urooj of KP clinched gold while Munaza of Punjab and Kaila of Army claimed second and third places.
Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob distributed medals among the top position holders on the first day of the championship. Secretary-General AFP Muhammad Zafar also presented a souvenir to Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob on this occasion.
Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob said athletics is rightly portrayed as the mother of all sports and the countries which excelled in athletics usually produced wonderful results in other sports as well; he further added National Youth and Junior Athletics Championship is a key platform for young male and female athletes to show their potential.
As many as 400 male and female athletes are demonstrating their athletics talent in the championship in which teams from Pakistan Army, Navy, Railway, WAPDA and four provinces Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are taking part in the 2-day grand national event.
