18 member Pakistan Volleyball Team to take part in South Asian Games 2019
Pakistan Volleyball Team is the first group of athletes to have left for Nepal to feature in the upcoming 13th South Asian Games which are to be held from 1st to 10th December in Kathmandu.
The 2019 South Asian Games, officially called the XIII South Asian Games, is a major multi-sport event which was originally slated to be held from 9 to 18 March 2019 in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal. However, the dates have been postponed and the event will now be held from 1β10 December.
Pakistan is all set to field its Volleyball squad in these games for which the best 16 players have been selected who, along with two officials flew out to Nepal from the Islamabad International Airport.
Aimal Khan will lead the volleyball team at the regional extravaganza.
Pakistan Sports Board Director Media, Azam Dar said,
βIn the last edition of the South Asian Games, our team won the silver medal. And this time around, the Pakistan Volleyball Federation is hoping for the gold. Our players are in good form. Recently, they defeated India in the Asian Volleyball Championship held in Iran.β
A 305-strong Pakistan contingent including athletes and officials will feature in various disciplines at this regional sports gala.
These Games will feature 28 sports with paragliding making it debut and cricket returning after 8 years. Golf and karate were the two sports added by the hosts as their choice. The highest number of events (20) will be held in Swimming while Athletics will host the next most with 19.
