Usman Club clinch first win in Mehmood Molvi Cup Basketball Tournament 2019

The 2019 Mehmood Molvi Cup Basketball Tournament rolled into action at Armabagh Basketball Court in Karachi where Usman Club triumphed over Karachi U-18 Team in the opening game.

Monday night marked the first ever game for Mehmood Molvi Cup Basketball Tournament 2019 where Usman Basketball Club took on Karachi U-18 Team, who saw their star players missing out in this crucial match. 

The contest remained close the whole way through with both teams fighting to stay alive but at the end, crucial shots from the Usman Basketball Club helped them mark the first victory of the tournament by the final score line of 42-38. 

The tightly contested game saw both the teams playing supreme style of basketball, with Usman Club players running and gunning while Karachi U-18 Team boys slowing it down as the match proceeded towards the closing time. 

Most attacks on the basket were made by Hamza Perwani of the winning side who scored the game-high 17 points with good assistance from Humayoun Aslam and Hasan Iqbal bucketing 13 and 11 points, respectively. 

For the runner-ups, Hasan Iqbal Jr (12 points), Shariq Suleman (11 points) and Saad Salahuddin (10 points) played well.

Karachi U-18 Team players, who slightly established a lead through two of its best players: Hasan Iqbal Jr and Shariq Suleman marking the most points: 12 and 11, respectively along with Saad Salah Ud Din's 10 points contribution, were not able to follow their plan till the end of regulation time and therefore, Usman Club capitalized on this crucial opportunity by clinching the significant win.

Pakistan Sports Welfare Association (PSWA) in collaboration with Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA) have jointly organized this tournament to pay tributes to the services of Mehmood Molvi, Federal Secretary for Overseas Affairs.

The event was graced by PTI MPA, Khurram Sher Zaman, who said that sports are essential for mental and physical growth of people and PTI government lays special emphasis on promoting sports at grass roots level.
