The start of 33rd National Games has been further delayed by a day owing to the inauguration of Kartarpur corridor on Nov 9.
The games, which were scheduled to commence from Nov 9, will now be inaugurated on Nov 10.
The decision was taken in an organising committee meeting in Peshawar with provincial senior minister Atif Khan at the helm. It was stated that the delay was meant to ensure the involvement and participation of top officials at the federal level at the inauguration of the National Games.
This is the second time the games have been delayed after they were originally slated to begin from Oct 27 but the date was changed to Nov 9 due to ‘Azadi March', announced by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F.
Senior Minister said that the National Games were being held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after a long hiatus of 9 years. He said that this was in itself a manifestation of the significant improvements in the law and order situation in the province, which suffered due to decades of militancy and terrorism.
He further stated that Rs 180 million have been allocated by the KP for the National Games to ensure world-class facilities and arrangements for the players, officials and spectators. More than 10,000 players and officials will be participating in the National Games.
