If given coaching role, can produce squash champions: Tahir
Tahir Iqbal Khan, coach and elder brother of Nasir Iqbal, has vowed that if the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) assigns him coaching role of National Squash Academy (NSA), he will not only accept it but also help the country in producing squash champions in a given time.

Talking to The Nation on Tuesday, Tahir, who has wide national and international coaching experience, said: “Despite having a great number of coaching offers from abroad, I could never think about leaving Pakistan as today whatever I am, it is just because of my country. Although I received some offers especially from USA, yet I will only focus on helping not only Nasir but other youngsters of my country to fulfill their dream of winning world title for Pakistan.
“My services like past are always available for the PSF and the country and if they keep faith in my abilities and assign me any role at the NSA, I would love to accept it and do everything I can to produce quality players in given time,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that Tahir was only 19, when his playing career was over, but he never lost heart and started coaching his younger brother Nasir Iqbal Khan. His hard work, passion and devotion bore fruit when Nasir became the only Pakistan in nearly a decade to break into top 35 in PSA rankings and his upward journey continues unabated.
Tahir stated that he stared coaching Nasir in 2006, when he was also playing at junior level, as the then coach Rehmat Khan had left Pakistan. “I had no other option but to carry on with dual role until injury forced me to shift entire focus on Nasir. I gave my all to Nasir and I am quite sure, my hard work and Nasir’s abilities will not let us down and he will certainly break into elite group of PSA players. “I must not forget to admire the role of the PSF, which is generously supporting Nasir and all the other biding players of the country, and without their help, it was not possible for me and my family to think about investing a huge amount of money on Nasir and getting best results from him,” he added.
“Right now, I have been working very hard with Nasir and I am sure with the prayers of parents, help of the PSF and my coaching, Nasir will prevail at international squash circuit and raise the green flag high, just like he did in the recent past,” Tahir concluded.
