Unseeded Asiam-Santiago thwart Italian duo in European Open 2019 main round

Lahore-born vibrant tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and his Mexican partner Santiago Gonzalez are unseeded in the European Open being held in Antwerp, Belgium.
Aisam and Gonzalez, ranked 55th and 58th, respectively, thrashed Italian duo of Lorenzo Sonego and Andrea Vavassori by 2-0 in the first round of men’s doubles category of this ATP-250 championship.
At first, Italians seemed anything but overwhelmed by their opponents. The Belgian kept up with Aisam-Santiago’s game during the first set, 7-5, a close call.
In the second set, the PAK-Mexican duo showed their true fighting spirit and even converted two break points and wrapped up the evening session with a decisive tie-break, 7-4.
The European Open has officially started and the audience in the Lotto Arena witnessed a few surprising matches. Kyle Edmund, winner of the 2018 edition, didn’t survive the first qualifying round.
