Punjab Olympic Association targets to host next year's National Games

Punjab Olympic Association (PbOA) is eyeing the opportunity over hosting next year’s edition of National Games.

Provincial Olympic body’s officials earlier announced that Punjab Olympic Association (PbOA) is targeting towards holding the 2020 National Games. A press conference was held yesterday that had prominent presences such as PbOA President, Aamir, Provincial Sports Minister, Rai Taimur, Director General Sports Board Punjab, Adnan Arshad and Secretary Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Khalid Mahmood.

Aamir, PbOA President, revealed that the province is set to hold the next edition of National Games, as it was the responsibility of the biggest province of the country to patronize the sports. When the stage arrives to bid for the Games, the entire PbOA with the Sports Ministry will be try to get the hosting rights for the 2020 edition.

The PBoA is also eyeing partnership with private sector organisations to generate funds for the promotion of sports. As a first, the association has signed a MoU with Pakistan Super League franchise Lahore Qalandars.

The 33rd National games are set to take place in Peshawar from October 26 till November 1, after a gap of seven years where there would be around 500 athletes to represent Punjab in the upcoming Games. 

Regarding the preparation of the Punjab contingent for the Peshawar Games, province’s athletes are to be put into training camps in the coming days and Punjab’s medal winners in the National Games will also be awarded with cash incentives.
