Huzaifa & Shoaib steers Pakistan to book berth in finals of ITA-SNGPL ITF Pakistan World Junior Tennis Championships 2019
Huzaifa Abdul Rehman and Shoaib Khab kept Pakistan’s flag flying at the ITA-SNGPL ITF Pakistan World Junior Tennis Championships as Pakistan secured a berth in the finals with two players facing each other in the semi-finals at at the Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad.
Huzaifa Abdul Rehman and Shoaib Khab kept Pakistan’s flag flying at the ITA-SNGPL ITF Pakistan World Junior Tennis Championships as Pakistan secured a berth in the finals with two players facing each other in the semi-finals at at the Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad.
Second seed Huzaifa cruised past Hong Kong’s Kang Gunuk while the sixth-seeded Shoaib overwhelmed Taiwanese Lu Chen You in another one-sided affair. Unseeded Korean Kim Dong Hwan has raised Pakistan’s title chances as he stunned top-seeded Briton Daniel Webb in a thrilling three-set marathon lasting two hours and 36 minutes.
Webb broke Kim in the ninth game of the first set before taking it 6-4. But Kim rebounded, breaking Webb in the final game of the second set to win it 7-5. It was too much for Webb and after taking a 3-0 lead by breaking the Brit in the second game, Kim cruised in the third set 6-2.
There is another Korean in the last four after Min-Joon defeated Taiwan’s Yu-Shun Lai. The top two seeds in the girls’ singles event are through to the semis with Turkish top seed Aysegul Mert and Russian Valitova Arina joined by Koreans Choi Ji-Woo and Jang Soo-Ha.
