The home side rode on a hat-trick by Rana Abdul Waheed to impose a resounding victory over Oman’s team which is on a preparatory tour of Pakistan ahead of their participation in the Asia Confederation hockey cup in Bangladesh being staged from Oct 14.
Rana Sohail, Hammad Anjum, Rizwan Ali and Amjad Ali Khan chipped in with a goal apiece to complete the misery for the visiting team.
Oman failed to offer any resistance to the home side, and most of the time remained on the defensive.
Rana Waheed was the hero of the day with his forceful sprints up and down the flanks and accurate shooting in the striking circle to beat the rival defenders.
The tourists play the second match on Wednesday(today) at the same venue.
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Secretary Muhammad Asif Bajwa, former PHF President Akhtar Rasool, former Olympians and international players including Qasim Khan, Anjum Saeed, Punjab Hockey Association (PHA) Secretary Lt Col (R) Asif Naz Khokhar witnessed the match with keen interest.
