In the first game, sixth seed Tayyab stamped his authority and put non-seeded Mohd Syafiq Kamal of Malaysia under enormous pressure, which helped the Pakistani youngster took the game 11-4. Lahori-born player continued his dominance in the second game as well as he played superbly and won the longest game 20-18. After such a power show, it was being expected that Tayyab will simply outclass Mohd to register victory and book quarter-final berth but the casual approach of Tayyab cost him dearly and helped Mohad make a good comeback and win the third game 7-11.
In the fourth game, world# 52 Tayyab matched fire with fire and answered all the shots thrown at him very well. He was playing like a true champion while Mohd was looking surprised as well as frustrated because he was not expecting such a display of powerful shots from his opponent. Tayyab gradually built up the lead and after few anxious moments and surviving barrage of attacks, he took the game 11-8, thus won the encounter of 61 minutes by 3-1.
Now, Tayyab will be up against fourth seed Eain Yow Ng of Malaysia in the quarters.
The Malaysian Squash Open however took a hiatus after the 2014 edition before it was resumed in 2017. Now in its third year after the reboot, the Malaysian Open is a PSA Challenger 30 event for the men PSA Challenger 20 for the women.
