Leading Australian Football Coach, Michael Gallus to touch down in Pakistan

One of the leading Australian Football League coaches, Michael Gallus is coming to Pakistan to conduct introductory and practice sessions in several cities.

A primary school teacher for twenty-five years in Melbourne, Michael Gallus is coming to Pakistan today evening to conduct introductory and practice sessions for interested players, coaches and sports teachers here. 

As informed by Syed Gohar Raza, Executive Director Australian Football League (AFL) Sindh, Gallus, along with Pakistan’s Dr Ariz, will be conducting a detailed session at the Students Center IBA Karachi tomorrow at sharp 10:00 AM and later he would also demonstrate some techniques and impart outdoor training for interested boys and girls.

Michael is passionate about sports in the community and enjoys the “uniqueness, physicality and the passion of AFL (Australian Football League). He has been a local community coach for the past two decades. In 2017, he coached the Pakistan National Women’s Team for the AFL International Cup held in Melbourne. 

To which he said, 

 “I was extremely impressed with their passion, determination, perseverance and resilience. I told the girls in the team that one day I will come to Pakistan and help them develop the understanding of the game but also grow the game in Pakistan. I can’t wait to meet the people and learn about the culture, their music and their food. I will also visit Multan city to train male and female participants in a local tournament."

Part of Gallus' trip is to lecture in the universities to talk about the role of sport and how it can provide positive pathways in life and promote the cross-cultural relationship between Australia and Pakistan. 

With the support of AFL Pakistan and local sports club named: Pakistan Shaheens (Shaheen Sporting and Social Club) in Melbourne, Michael will visit several cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Gujranwala and Multan.  

Perwaiz Ahmed Shaikh, Secretary AFL Sindh and Syed Mohammad Nadeem will also coordinate the session with the coach. The lecture of coach, Gallus and the training sessions will prove benificial for the Pakistan players as they hope to compete in the AFL World Cup 2020 in Australia.
