National Hockey Training camp for Olympics qualifier continues in full swing

The National hockey training camp for the upcoming Olympics qualifier began at the National Hockey Stadium, Lahore.

The national hockey training camp for the upcoming Olympics qualifier began at the National Hockey Stadium Lahore and fitness tests of the probables was held under the supervision of Dr. Asad. 

Out of total 35 probables, 26 reported to the camp commandant Khawaja Junaid. Four probables are playing league hockey in Europe, while three are currently in the continent with the Dar Hockey Academy. Two probables are on the missing list due to family problems.

Dr. Asad said fitness tests were essential to retain the players in the training camp. He said different physical tests were taken and that there will be no compromise on the fitness of the players.

To a question Asad said there would be no compromise on the quality of food for the players and a complete diet chart has also been drafted.

The Olympics qualifier is set to be held in October and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) will announce the draws on September 9.

Earlier, Pakistan was not being considered for this round as the FIH has excluded the team for not fulfilling a commitment of participating in the Pro Hockey League early this year.

However, its disciplinary committee has disposed off the case after imposing a cash penalty of $ 100,000. Half of the penalty will be charged from the Pakistan Hockey Federation in three installments while the remaining amount has to be spent on the development of the game at the grassroots level in the country.

After paying the first installment of $ 15,000, the FIH has included Pakistan n the draws for the qualifying matches.
