Four Pakistani Judokas to feature in World Judo Championships 2019
Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) have fielded four Judo athletes in the 2019 World Judo Championships which are to take place from 25 August to 01 September in Tokyo, Japan.
A four-member Pakistan squad have already left for Japan to compete in the World Judo Championships 2019 in the Senior category where Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) have fielded three Judokas who would be representing Pakistan which include: Shah Hussain Shah (-100 k), Mohammad Hasnain (-66 KG), Amina Toyda (- 57 KG) and Humaira (- 49 KG).
Regarding the athletes' fitness PJF Secretary, Mansoor Ahmed,
“Shah and Amina are Japan-based. They have been attending regular training sessions in Tokyo along with Japan’s top-class judokas. Both are in good shape and [therefore] we hope for some stunning show from them at the championships."
This coveted quadrennial world event is featuring a total of 860 competitors among which 519 are men and 341 are women fighters belonging to 149 different countries, whose athletes would be competing in seven different categories with hope to earn top honors in the championship. These World Championships are also serving as Qualifying event for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“If the Japan-based judokas succeed in winning gold medals it will be a huge achievement because this will see them directly qualifying for the 2020 Olympics. But if they claim silver or bronze, even then their ranking will improve and there will be a chance for them to do well again at some other international events to claim an Olympics spot. For Hasnain and Humaira, they are capable of pulling off a surprise because we understand that they are at the initial stage of their careers; we have advised them to give their best and don’t take any pressure.”
