Star-studded Diamond Paints and spirited Dollar East/Master Paints will vie for the top honours in the Bank Alfalah National Open Polo Championship 2016 for Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup
Star-studded Diamond Paints and spirited Dollar East/Master Paints will vie for the top honours in the Bank Alfalah National Open Polo Championship 2016 for Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup main final while Master Paints/Habib Metro and Learning Alliance will compete against each other for the third position here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground today (Wednesday).
The National Open Polo for Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup is the premier polo activity of Pakistan’s polo season and it is being sponsored by Bank Alfalah. The LPC has made grand arrangements to hold the finals of this prestigious polo activity which will be witnessed and enjoyed by sizeable crowd including families of players and polo enthusiast.
The finals of the biggest polo event of the country were scheduled to be held on Sunday but due to heavy downpours, they were postponed and rescheduled on Wednesday. One of the finalist teams Diamond Paints has the services of Mir Shoaib Ahmed, Saqib Khan Khakwani, Raja Taimur Nadeem and Santiago Cernadas while the other finalist Dollar East/Master Paints team consists of Sufi Farooq, Bilal Haye, Hamza Mawaz Khan and Juan Cruz Losada.
Mir Shoaib of Diamond Paints terming both the finalists strong ones said: “I am expecting a healthy contest in today’s final. We have good team combination and with sincere efforts and hard word, I hope we will succeed in defending our title.”
Sufi Farooq of Dollar East/Master Paints said that all the players were fit and geared up to lift the title. “My players and horses are good and capable of winning the most prestigious title of Pakistan polo but what we all need to do is to deliver in the field by exhibiting our prowess and clinch the coveted trophy.”
In his statement, Bank Alfalah CEO Atif Bajwa said: “Bank Alfalah has a longstanding commitment to nurturing sports in Pakistan. We have been a strong advocate of fostering emerging talent in sports while emerging community development in the country.”
“The Lahore Polo Club is one of the oldest clubs in the world and has produced some internationally acclaimed players. We share the same commitment to keep the traditional game of polo alive in Pakistan. For the last eight years, Bank Alfalah has been supporting talent in polo,” he added.
