4 Pakistani Boxers to feature in Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament 2019
A six-member Pakistan squad have departed for Bangkok today to participate in the 2019 Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament which is t be held from 18 to 28 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Secretary, Col. Nasir Tung informed that a total of four pugilists will be featuring in the one known as the Kings Cup, that will be held from July 18 to 28 in Thailand.
The four pugilists along with their coach and team manager have left for the event among which the boxers are: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Qadir Khan who will feature in 64 KG weight class and Eid Ullah in 49 KG of weight category, who will fly from Peshawar Airport, while Tanveer Ahmed (75 KG) and Mohammad Said (81 KG) of Pakistan Navy will leave from Karachi.
The boxers will be accompanied by coach, Liaquat Ali and manager, Syed Kamal.
Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Secretary, Col. Nasir Tung said that the boxers had undergone intensive training at camps in Peshawar and Karachi and were in good shape.
“We want to give maximum exposure to these boxers and their participation in the Kings Cup is part of our plan to prepare them for two Olympic qualifiers, taking place between March and May next year. They have also the potential to claim medals in the Cup as they are going to feature in it on the basis of their outstanding performances at the national level.”
Tanveer and Qadir were also probable for the Tokyo Olympics and that was why the federation did not want to miss any chance that could help them earn a spot in world’s most coveted sports event.
Besides these pugilists, the Federation have Awais of Pakistan Army and Syed Muhammad Asif, who can also claim a spot in Tokyo Olympics Games. That is why the Federation have decided to focus on the top performers ahead of these Games.”
