Pakistani professional boxer, Mohammad Waseem all set to return to the ring on 22nd June
Two-time WBC world silver flyweight champion, Mohammad Waseem of Pakistan is all set to return to the ring with his comeback bout scheduled to be held on 22nd June at MTK Global Glasgow Centre, Scotland.
The 31 year old boxer from Quetta his going to have a comeback at the MTK Global Glasgow Centre in a bout which is scheduled to be held on 22nd June while his opponent is yet to be finalized.
Waseem, one of the best boxers produced by Pakistan, was last seen in action in June 2018 when he went down against South African counterpart, Moruti Mthalane in Kuala Lumpur, losing the International Boxing Federation (IBF) world title fight. Since then, Waseem was out of action.
The former two-time World Boxing Council (WBC) world silver flyweight champion have recently signed a deal with the England-based company after the end of his contract with the Korea-based AK Promotions, under whose patronage the Pakistani fighter won two WBC world silver titles. Waseem has signed a three-year deal with MTK Global and have already flew to Scotland where he is undergoing hard training with Danny Vaughan, his coach at the Glasgow gymnasium, where only flyweight boxers undergo training for their future commitments.
The star boxer of Pakistan seems very optimistic about his new stint to which he said,
"Yes, I am working very hard and learning new tricks and hopefully it will be a great return to the ring. Boxing is a sport in which you always are in quest of bringing some innovations in your approach. I am learning more things and am very much confident to emerge as a better fighter. I believe in myself and InshaAllah will win the world title.” Waseem said.
He also explained his training details and said that he is working on defence, head movement and his body shot, as more stress is given on conditioning, fitness and skills at the Glasgow gymnasium.
As this Pakistani boxer had stunned everyone with his abilities, he is expected to get another fight later this year before he goes for the world title bout. He has bewildered everyone in Glasgow with his hard training because he is fasting too. He eats one banana at iftar and then starts running on the highway.
“It’s very tough. I am going to run for 12 kilometer today after Iftar. Running makes you strong and improves your stamina which is important in 12-round boxing,” the fighter said.
His trainer, Danny Vaughan has been well satisfied with the ability of Waseem to which he said,
“He is a very hard working and tough boxer and will win the world crown.”
Waseem's current WBC ranking is 11th and his International Boxing Federation (IBF) ranking is 12th. So far he contested a total of 9 fights in which he have won 8 of them, 6 by knock-outs, losing to only Moruti Mthalane. 2015 was the year when he left the amateur circuit and turned professional having won bronze in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. He clinched the WBC world sliver title in only his 4th bout and just months later defended that. However, most of his short pro career was dogged by financial issues that forced Waseem to stay out of the ring for quite some time. But he feels that his new voyage would be more successful as he said that without caring for anything else he would now focus on his game.
