Karachi dethrone Hyderabad to win 6th Inter-Divisional Softball Championship title
Hyderabad team failed to retain their title as Karachi team emerged the new winners of Inter-Divisional Softball Championship 2019 which successfully concluded at Hyderabad Club in Hyderabad.
The final of the tournament was a thrilling contest between Karachi and the host, Hyderabad team as Karachi girls struggled to take away home the victory of the championship, finishing the match on a 16-15 score line.
The host team started the game well scoring six runs in the first inning while restricting the visiting Karachi team to four runs. In the second innings, Hyderabad managed to enhance their lead, yet again scoring six runs while limiting Karachi to five runs taking a 12-9 lead after two innings.
However, in the decisive third inning, Hyderabad team took pressure of losing the game and finally lost it as they were restricted to three runs. Chasing a competitive target of seven runs, Karachi managed to reach the victory total without losing a wicket to take the title. Hyderabad team failed to retain their title to which Karachi team took the advantage and emerged as the new champion of the 6th Inter-divisional Softball Championship.
Alizey, Zarlasht, Aisha Ishtiaq and Rida played well for Karachi scoring three runs each. Deeba and Mahnoor scored as many runs each for Hyderabad.
Shaheed Benazirabad team was given tough time by Sukkur team but the team still managed well and emerged as the winner of third position match by a close call of 11-10 score.
Commissioner Hyderabad, Mohammad Abbas Baloch was the honorable chief guest who witnessed the final game being played and also said the tournament will not only promote softball in Hyderabad but it would also popularize the game in the interior Sindh. He also praised the organizers for making this championship a complete success. He later awarded the high achievers with trophies and certificates as well.
The 6th Inter-divisional Softball Championship was organized by Sindh Softball Association (SSA) in collaboration with Sindh Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and Hyderabad Divisional Administration. All the matches were played under the floodlights.
Six divisional teams were competing for the title gain of the championship, which were divided into two pools. Pool A comprised of the host Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur while Group B includes: Karachi, Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad.
