Pakistan to take part in Inter-Parliamentary Cricket Tournament 2019 in UK
The parliamentarians of eight (8) countries will play the Inter-Parliamentary Cricket Tournament 2019 which is scheduled to be held from 8 to 15 July in United Kingdom.
Asad Qaiser, Speaker of the National Assembly, has shortlisted members of the ruling parties and the opposition to represent Pakistan in the Inter-Parliamentary Cricket Tournament into the current year that will take place in England this year from 8 to 15 July.
Participating teams of eight (8) nations for the ICC World Cup are also the teams to take part in the Inter-Parliamentary Cricket Tournament, which will take place next to the ICC Cricket World Cup, this year.
To ensure the participation of a well-prepared team in the tournament, the Speaker National Assembly included the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the training of parliamentarians while appointing Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi as the organizer of the cricket national team. Qureshi already has cricket experience at the university and district levels.
Up to 30 members of the National Assembly are attending the first assessment and training camp at the Shalimar Cricket Ground which is currently in progress from 16th April. All the players are training hard to get a place in the Pakistan team to which Makhdoom Zain said:
“It is not government or opposition cricket team; it is team of Pakistan’s elected parliament, who will participate in the event and will play like one-unit. It would be a good show of cricket diplomacy as we will meet the honorable members of seven other participating nations. British PM has also invited us to 10-Downing Street. We will plead Pakistan’s case at every possible forum and let me assure all that as ambassador of Pakistan, we will ensure like we are visiting England, they will in return come and play in Pakistan.”
He said they had planned to play against all the provincial assembly cricket teams and Lahore Qalandars had also offered them to play against their team and were also planning to play against services cricket teams as well. The Parliamentarians will also be playing friendly matches, which are to kick start from today,to finalize a competitive team and participate in the exciting and unique tournament. The PCB has set the timetable for parliamentarians’ initial evaluation and training camps under the supervision of their trainers.
The parliamentarians would would open their friendly matches' campaign by playing the very first game against the Journalists XI at Shalimar ground in Islamabad.
