Hashim Ibrahim added 19 runs to overnight score of 71 when he was dismissed for 142-ball 90 (eight fours and a brace of sixes) after adding 108 for the third wicket with Ali Zaryab, who remained unbeaten with an 111-ball 62 (five boundaries) as Sabir’s Poultry reached 236-3. Sabir’s Poultry grabbed the top place in Pool D with 15 points.
Ghani Glass needed to defeat PQA outright in their third-round pool B clash at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on the last day of the preliminary-round phase of the competition but Khurram struck a fluent century as PQA sealed a three-wicket victory. Having obtained a handy 132-run lead on the first innings, Ghani Glass mustered 151 all out as paceman Mudassar Riaz claimed 5-42 and ex-Test man Tanvir Ahmed 3-41. Set a target of 284, PQA got home on the back of Khurram’s 178-ball 110, containing 13 boundaries, and his third-wicket partnership of 149 with left-handed Atif Ali Zaidi (60).
The result meant the Higher Education Commission (HEC) — who thrashed CandyLand by innings and 139 runs on Tuesday — topped the group with 16 points with Ghani Glass and PQA finishing with nine apiece.
Likewise Omar Associates were also denied a semi-final qualification when the previous pool ‘A’ leaders crashed to a 10-wicket drubbing at the NBP Sports Complex.
Resuming at 92-4, Omar Associates folded up for 190 in their second innings as Fawad Khan picked up his second five-wicket haul in the match. The slow left-armer’s figures of 5-37 in 23 overs gave him match bag of 10-105 from 52 overs. Off-spinner Nasir Owais claimed 4-64 in 18.3 overs.
Chasing a modest 115, Navy sailed home in 32.3 overs without losing a wicket. Hafiz Asad Baig (65 off 95 balls, 11 fours) and Jahanzaib Javed (52 off 100, six boundaries) putting on 118.
Navy and the Civil Aviation Authority (CCA) both ended up with 18 points each after the latter sealed a 110-run victory against Haideri Traders at the UBL Sports Complex. Off-spinner Usman Usmani snared five wickets for 82 runs in 24 overs as Haideri Traders, who began the third and final day at 42-1, were all out for 239. Slow left-armer Mirza Ahsan Jamil took 3-42 to finish with excellent haul of 11-117 in the match.
