Former Pakistan# 1 Farhan Mehboob in semis of $20,000 of Serena Hotels Huawei International Squash Tournament 2019
Farhan Mehboob defeated Ammar Altamimi of Kuwait by 3-0 to move into semis of Serena Hotels Huawei International Squash Tournament here at the Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad.
Former Pakistan no.1 Farhan Mehboob defeated unseeded Ammar Altamimi of Kuwait by 3-0 to move into semifinal of Serena Hotels Huawei International Squash Tournament here at the Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad.
Farhan, whose career best world ranking was 16 in May 2009 and has now slipped to 73, was in the best nick and gave a tough time to Ammar as Farhan displayed outstanding squash skills against Egyptian player and dominated him well to win the first game by 11-5.
Farhan, who was ice cool and was fully focusing on his mission, continued his aggressive approach as 4th seeded Farhan showed his class to utilize his wide international experience and displayed outstanding squash skills to win the second game at 11-4.
The third game started with both players keeping each other engage in long rallies and both looked highly cautious and were not ready to hand over advantage to other. Farhan did have chances to wrap up the game much early, but like witnessed so many times, when Farhan is on a roll, he mostly get relaxed and allow opponents too much space and freedom.
Same happened again and Ammar not only closed the gap, but Farhan woke up timely and claimed the third game 12-10 and move into the semifinal of $20,000 event.
Now 4th seeded Mehboob will play his semifinal match against tournaments top seeded and World No. 46 player Egypt’s Karim Al Fathi on Tuesday 9th April at 12:00 PM (PST).
Three other Pakistanis, Tayyab Aslam, Asim Khan and Amaad Fareed were eliminated from the event after losing their respective quarterfinals.Asim lost to Karim Al Fathi of Egypt 11-9, 12-10, 11-6 in a match that lasted 42 minutes while Amaad had to take a 9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 4-11, 11-4 loss against Spain’s Carlos Cornes.
In the last quarter-final, Mohamed El-Sherbini of Egypt beat Pakistan number one Tayyab Aslam in a nail-biting thriller which ended 11-13, 11-9, 11-2, 6-11, 13-11. The match lasted for 91 minutes.
