ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 | Pakistan's fixtures with other nations
A total of about 10 teams from all over the world are to compete in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 which is all set to roll into action from 30th May and will continue till 14th July at England and Wales.
The 2019 Cricket World Cup, officially ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is the 12th edition of the Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by England and Wales from 30th May to 14th July, 2019. The hosting rights were awarded in April 2006, after England and Wales withdrew from the bidding to host the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, which was held in Australia and New Zealand.
The first match will be played at The Oval Cricket Stadium while the final will be played at Lord's Cricket Stadium. It is the 5th time that the Cricket World Cup will be held in England and Wales, following the 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1999 World Cups.
The format for the tournament will be a single group of 10 teams, with each team playing the other 09 teams, and the top 4 teams progressing to a knockout stage of semi-finals and a final. The 10 team tournament has gained criticism due to the lack of Associate teams in the tournament. Given the increase of the Test playing nations from 10 to 12, with the admission of Ireland and Afghanistan in June 2017, it will be the first World Cup to be contested without all of the Test playing nations being present, and after the elimination of all the Associate teams at the qualifying tournament, this will be also be the first ever World Cup to feature no Associate members.
The 2019 World Cup will feature 10 teams, a decrease from previous World Cups in 2011 and 2015 which featured 14 teams. The hosts, England, and the top 7 other teams in the ICC One Day International rankings as of 30th September 2017 earned automatic qualification, with the remaining two spots being decided by the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
Ten non-ODI warm-up matches will be played from 24 to 28 May 2019. Pakistan will play its first match on 31st May against West Indies and the second on against the host, England on 3rd June. The most thrilling match for the Pakistan spectators will be the one in which Pakistan will be encountering the arch rival team: India in their 5th match on 16th June. Before that game, Pakistan will play two matches, against Sri Lanka and Australia, respectively.
Other matches of Pakistan include:
- 23 June: Pakistan VS South Africa
- 26 June: Pakistan VS New Zealand
- 29 June: Pakistan VS Afghanistan
- 5 July: Pakistan VS Bangladesh
