Pakistan's last hope Tayyab Aslam in quarters of CAS International Squash Championship 2019
Tayyab showed his class as he overwhelmed Spain’s Carlos Cornes Ribadas by 3-0 and remains the only Pakistan representative in the quarter-finals of Serena Hotels CAS International Squash Championship 2019 at Mushaf Ali Mir Squash Complex, Islamabad.
On the second day, top seed Greg Lobban, Tayyab Aslam, Mostafa Asal, Karim Ali Fathi and second seed Youssef Soliman move into the quarterfinal of Serena Hotels CAS International Squash Championship 2019 at Mushaf Ali Mir Squash Complex, Islamabad.
In the first match, top seed Greg Lobban of Scotland thrashed Henry Leung of Hong Kong by 3-0 with the final score line of 11-9, 11-4,11-6.
World number 51 Tayyab showed his class as he overwhelmed Spain’s Carlos Cornes Ribadas 11-4, 11-5, 12-10 and now remains the only Pakistan representative in the quarter-finals.
For a place in the semi-final, Tayyab will face Egypt’s Karim Al Fathi who ended the campaign of local hope Asim Khan 11-5, 8-11, 11-4, 11-9 in 51 minutes.
Another Egyptian, Mazen Gamal, accounted for the other Pakistan player, Farhan Mehboob. Struggling with his fitness, Farhan lost after a 52-minute battle 12-10, 13-11, 2-11, 4-11, 9-11.
In the highly-charged third match of the day between Karim Ali Fathi of Egypt and Asim khan where both started well but like witnessed in the past that after taking cruise control, Asim let the things slip and allow the opponents too much liberty and complacency to stage a comeback where Karim took advantage to win the first game at 11-5.
World rank#83 Asim then changed the gear and started playing aggressively which helped him to win the second game by 11-8. Karim produced skill full game and didn't allowed Asim to play freely as he won the third game by 11-4.In the twisting fourth game Karim bounced back to equalized the lead at 5-5 with the score of 11-9.
Asim could not come up to the expectations of the local crowd as Lahore-born Pakistani lost his match against world rank# 46 Karim Ali Fathi of Egypt by 3-1 with the final score line of 11-5, 8-11, 11-4, 11-9.
Second seed Youssef Soliman of Egypt wrapped an easy victory over Martin Svec of Czech Republic by 3-0 with the final score line of 11-3, 11-6,11-8 to move into the quarterfinals of mega event.
Meanwhile, there remains ample local representation in the quarter-finals of the Serena Hotels-Condor Pakistan International Squash Tournament for Women with top-ranked Madina Zafar, Riffat Khan, Moqaddas Ashraf and Amna Fayyaz all making it through.
