Day 1 Results of $28,000 Serena Hotels CAS International Squash Championship 2019

Farhan Mehboob, Asim Khan, Ammar Altamimi overpowered their respective opponents to move into the pre-quaterfinal round of Serena Hotels Chief of the Air Staff International for men Mushaf Ali Mir Squash Complex, Islamabad.

 
Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) in collaboration with Pakistan Air Force and Serena Hotels, is organizing a series international squash tournaments (Chief of the Air Staff-Serena Hotels International Squash Tournament for Men with US$ 30,000/- prize money.

Farhan Mehboob, Asim Khan, Ammar Altamimi overpowered their respective opponents to move into the pre-quaterfinal round of Serena Hotels Chief of the Air Staff International for men at Mushaf Ali Mir Squash Complex, Islamabad. 

World rank# 75 Henry Leung of Hong Kong overpowered Ammar Altamimi of Kuwait by 3-0 in 25 minutes in the first match of the opening day with the final score line of 12-10, 11-4 and 11-4 to move into the pre-quarterfinal.

In the second match, two-times former CNS Champion Farhan Mehboob thrashed his compatriot and wild card entrant Israr Ahmed by 3-0 in just 13 minutes. 30-year-old Farhan started the first game on electrifying pace as he soon took control over the entire tempo of the game towards to win it by 11-2.

World no.72 used his experienced to produce a skillful game to win the second game by 11-2 while in the third game Farhan displayed outstanding squash skills and dominated Israr to win the game and the match with the final score line of 11-2, 11-2, 11-3.

The players who got bye in the first round are: top seed Greg Lobban, Shehab Essam, Mazen Gamal, Mostafa Asal, Karim Ali Fathi, Mohamed Reda, Tayyab Aslam and the second seed Youssef Soliman.

Asim Khan swept aside Amaad Fareed by 3-1 in the third encounter of the day where world no 83 Asim started the match in great style and won the first game by 11-9. Asim continue his aggressive play to win the second game by 11-6.

World no.122 Amaad produced some skillful game to prove his metal as he won the third game by 12-10. Asim started playing aggressively as he fought courageously to overcome world no. 122 Amaad to comprehensively won the fourth game by 11-2 to move into the second round of $28,000 event in 27 minutes. Asim will now face fourth seeded Karim Ali Fathi of Egypt on Tuesday(2nd April) at 3:00 pm.

Meanwhile in the women’s $10,000 event, Nimra Aqeel, Sammer Anjum, Noor-ul-Ain Ejaz and Rushna Mehboob beat their respective compatriots in the first round. Sammer overcame Saima Shaukat 11-9, 11-5, 10-12, 7-11, 11-6 in 31 minutes. 

Pakistan’s top-ranked player Madina Zafar, Riffat Khan, Moqaddas Ashraf and Amina Fayyaz all seeded players besides other top international players are already in the next round after getting bye in the first round.

Seven players from Pakistan, eight from Egypt, three from Hong Kong and one each from Scotland, Kuwait, Ireland, Spain, South Africa and Czech Republic are featuring in the men’s event. In the women’s event, 17 players from Pakistan, three from Egypt, two from Korea and and one each from Switzerland and Iran are competing.

PSF senior vice-president Air Marshal Shahid Akhtar Alvi graced the opening ceremony as chief guest.
