Fatima Jinnah XI and Quaid-E-Azam XI gain victories in 2019 Pakistan Day Exhibition Basketball matches
Exhibition Basketball matches were arranged to celebrate Pakistan Day 2019 at KPT Sports Complex in Karachi.
In connection with the celebrations of Pakistan Day into the current year, two (2) basketball matches were arranged to be played. Matches were held in both male and female categories in which the following teams participated:
Boys: Quaid-E-Azam IX VS Shaheed-E-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan IX
Girls: Fatima Jinnah IX VS Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan IX
The first match was played between the boys teams in which Quaid-E-Azam IX basketball team battled with Shaheed-E-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan IX basketball team. Quaid-E-Azam IX basketball team boys defeated their opponents in a thrilling match by 34-30. The players of the winning team displayed a splendid game and earn the victory in the match as the team as a whole worked hard enough to claim this victory with Hamza Khawaja, Haris Khan and Hassan proving to be the key players scoring 10 points each, whereas Kenneth Johnson made 05 shots in total.
For the losing side, the leading scorers were Hamza Khan shooting 10 points into the basket while Humayun Khan made 08 points.
While in the girls match where Fatima Jinnah IX basketball team and Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan IX basketball team were battling for the win, it was Fatima Jinnah IX team that outplayed their opponents in a nail-biting match by 40-32. Both the teams charged themselves at the basket performing with remarkable foot-work making full effort to secure the win however, the winning team player’s accuracy was too much for the losing team to catch up to as Yusra proved to be the most talented player shooting 12 points into the basket. Whereas Cameron Kenneth and Fatima made 08 shots each.
The losing team did tried to bring some heat into the game from their side through Kiran who scored 08 points but she alone was not enough to beat the opponent team. Sidra with 07 points and Hira scoring 06 points did also contribute in the game-play for their team.
Assistant Commissioner Harbors, Abdul Raheem Parwani, was the honorable guest of honor who later distributed awards and medals on behalf of Sports for Life to the winning teams.
Speaking on the occasion, he announced that DC West Girls Basketball Championship will be held next month that will feature teams from the leading colleges and schools teams.
