Army athletes dominate 1st Islamabad Marathon Race
As many as 1000 enthusiastic runners participated in the first ever Islamabad Marathon Race which successfully concluded at Margalla Hills in Islamabad.
The First ever Isalamabad Marathon was organized under the aegis of Street Champions Pakistan that featured over 1000 enthusiastic athletes who showed up to compete in this mega marathon. It had several different categories and the marathon started from Seventh Avenue, Kalsoom Plaza and culminated at the base of Margalla Hills.
The marathon was supervised by Capt (Rtd) Ashraf and his team while Traffic Police, CDA and the City Administration made special arrangements to make the event successful. This City Marathon was hugely participated by the runners of all ages and the sole purpose of the conduction of this marathon was to inculcate the urge for healthy activities among locals. It has slogans such as "Run for Naya Pakistan" and "Islamabad the Beautiful".
All three top places in the Professional category which had a distance of 5 Kilometers, were claimed by the Army athletes as Naseem Ud Din stood the winner at the top spot and was followedby Mohammad Zeeshan who grabbed the second position while Naveed settled for the third spot.
“It was just another occasion for me to flex my muscles. The Marathon gave me good opportunity to train for future national and international events,” Naseem said.
Ammar Abassi was declared the title winner of the Amateur category while Faraz and Mustafa managed the second and third positions, respectively. Ahmad Khan won the top spot in Under-12 category and was followed by Arslan who stood the runner-up and the third position went to Jahangir Khan . The Under-14 title winner is Nauman Satti along with Amjad and Akram finishing at the second and third. Over-50 categories winner is Mr. Mohammad Bashir.
Adviser to Prime Minister, Ali Nawaz Awan along with Brig Aamir Ikram, Brig (Rtd) Tariq Zaman, Kamran Khawaja, Khursheed Barlas, Jilal Haider, was the honorable chief guest who at the end, distributed various cash prizes, trophies, certificates and awards to the high achievers of the marathon.
About 150 special gifts including sports cycles and other sports gears were also distributed at the concluding ceremony among the participants.
He also announced to make this marathon a permanent feature of the city sports activities, saying that there was dire need of generating healthy activities in the capital.
